Vietnam-Cambodia border crossing

From Saigon we took a bus to Chau Doc, a small and unpretentious city on the Mekong Delta. We could have taken a boat, which seems to be more scenic, but it would have taken several days, so we chose the fastest route: bus. Well, it was actually a minivan, jam-packed. Surprisingly, we were the only tourists. Not very comfortable, but we reached our destination in less than 7 hours.
We left Chau Doc the following morning. We took a boat to cross the border to Cambodia. There were no fast boat tickets available, so we went up the Mekong on a slow boat: ~20 seats, in rows of 3, no windows, just a roof and open sides, refreshing breeze. It took over 3 hours to navigate from Chau Doc to the border. There, we got off the boat, had lunch, paid USD22 for a Cambodian visa, crossed a little gate by foot where a Vietnamese official checked our passports, and boarded another boat similar to the first. After 5 minutes the boat stopped at the little post on the picture, we got off to get our Cambodia arrival stamps, and back on the boat for 3 hours. The boat stopped ~40km south of Phnom Penh, a little bus took as to the city. The ride took 2 hours, there was so much traffic, and it was night time by the time we arrived. Phnom Penh has less motorbikes than Vietnam, but the chaos and vehicle mess was about the same.
Finally we reached the Bouganvillier Hotel, our oasis on the river front. We had a well deserved rest after all the time we spent on the road (and river). Since we started our SE Asia tour we have spent 22 hours on boats, and 37 hours on buses in total. Not that anybody is counting...
Today we set out to discover Phnom Penh. It is a hot and humid day.
