Chiang Rai Exploration
After an early afternoon arrival we went to explore Chiang Rai. The maps were clear that the city stands on a river. But it wasn't so easy to find. We traversed backwards and forwards over what proved to be drainage canals, we finally resorted to Google maps on the trusty Blackberry. How did people ever travel without them?
The Blackberry also got us back to the town centre where nightfall revealed a large and lively night market with many dining options. We lacked the courage to try the fried insects and went for something more conventional - in fact the chicken strips could have come from McDonalds. Evidence of global convergence in food tastes?
