Singapore History - WWII
The National Museum of Singapore has a spectacular History Gallery that educated us on Singapore's past. It seemed to me that the Japanese attack during WWII was the most traumatic event. Apparently, the British defending the island were expecting the Japanese to attack by sea. However, in December 1941, right after Pearl Harbor, the Japanese invaded and quickly took over Malaysia by land. Then they swiftly attacked Singapore by land and air. The British surrendered in February 1942. We also visited the Battle Box, which was the underground British base during the War. Now it is a museum showing the events during that fall.
