S of Hanoi - Ancient capital & caves

Started the day south of Hanoi at the ancient capital, Hoa Lu. Then we cycled through the paddy fields and beneath imposing limestone cliffs, accompanied by rain, which seemed to add to the atmosphere.
After lunch we boarded a sampan, tiny row boat, and traveled down the river to some impressive limestone caves. Still raining.
The sampans were powered by locals, some rowed with their arms, and others entirely with their feet.
At the end of the day we came back to busy Hanoi. We are already starting to enjoy the energy of the city.
